Angels We Have Heard on High – The Dream

 Are not all angels spirits in the divine service, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14

In the early morning hours this morning, December 19, 2024, I had a very vivid dream. In the dream I was in what looked like an older very traditional mansion. I remember the big windows and the gorgeous hardwood floors. I was in a large living room with a Persian rug and a Christmas tree but not much other furniture except for a Queen Anne looking couch with some side tables.

I was standing on the rug and I was in a circle of people. We were holding hands and singing Christmas Hymns and praising the Incarnation. But I could see something else that no one else saw. I saw giant angels, each one standing behind each person. They had wings that created a shelter over each person. The angels were beautiful. They appeared male to me. They also appeared fierce like you wouldn’t want to mess with them. You could tell they were warriors. They were also singing and illuminated with light. It was heavenly.

The feeling that overcame me was one of safety. The safest I have ever felt. It was so vivid and so real. I didn’t want to wake up.

When I did wake up and I thought of all the turmoil in the world, I thought how each of us would not fear if we could see this warrior sheltering us at the behest of God Almighty.

It all reminded me of Psalm 91, which was my mom’s favorite Psalm, and somehow lets me know on this first Christmas without her, that she actually is here with me.

Psalm 91 – Assurance of God’s Protection

You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
    who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress;
    my God, in whom I trust.”
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence;
he will cover you with his pinions,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
    or the arrow that flies by day,
or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your refuge,
    the Most High your dwelling place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
    no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
    so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
    the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
    I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
    I will be with them in trouble,
    I will rescue them and honor them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
    and show them my salvation.

    The Angels are all around us. Years ago I had a vision of three very large Angels. They came to my bedroom. I have often wondered if they were Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. They just stood there for a moment or two, and then they left.

    I was not particularly devoted to the Angels at that time. I am now! God is so patient with us. I have a special devotion to Archangel Michael. I think he is very close to all of us now in these very difficult and challenging times. All we need to do is just to call on him.

    I love the angels and call on them every day, Guardian Angels of my loved ones and the Archangels also. Mother Mary told us through Father Gobbi, to call on the Archangels for healing (Raphael), strength (Gabriel) and of course Michael, to battle evil. This is part of my daily prayers!

    Thank you so much for sharing this! It gives me much needed peace and hope. We have a new little granddaughter in NICU. Do you know if she has a guardian Angel if she is not baptized yet?

    • Most theologians believe that everyone has a guardian Angel from birth. In Matthew 18:10 Jesus states, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” He said this before the Crucifixion and was speaking about Jewish children. It would therefore seem that non-Christian, not just Christian (baptized) children have guardian angels.
      If the baby is in the NICU you can ask for a Priest to come baptize the child and anoint the child as well. I would do this especially if the child is struggling. The Grace of the Sacraments is a powerful thing.

        thank you for this beautiful reply. Susan, you are a very special woman of God. Your posts always bring wisdom and peace to my heart. May God bless you and your family this Christmas as you remember those who have gone to the heavenly realm.

        I have two grandchildren who spent almost 4 months in the NICU. They were born prematurely at a little over 6 months and weighed under 2 lbs. They were baptized right away in the NICU and a year later we had a baptismal ceremony in the church with family and friends present. They have had a difficult life since their parents divorced. Please pray for the twins – Sean and Annie who are now 23 years old.

    once again Susan you speak directly to me. This is also my first Christmas without my mother. She passed on December 9th at 1:11am after a valiant and horrifying struggle with pneumonia at the age of 93! Because I still have left side paralysis from a stroke on Aug 20 2022 getting back & forth to the hospital was a HUGE cross in itself. I was unable to be with her at the moment of her death but my sister was there having had to take over being her caregiver after my stroke. Mom’s first Christmas in heaven.😇 How wonderful for her even i
