Requiescat in Pace Mamma

The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty warrior.” Judges 6:12

Mary Josephine Carr Green

June 3, 1940 – March 25, 2024

My mom passed away Monday, March 25, 2024. Please pray for the repose of her soul.

Mom had lived with my family for 3 years. She had dementia. She also had type one diabetes. I had put her on hospice a little bit ago because of the marked decline. She went to sleep last Thursday and just didn’t wake up after that. She looked so peaceful. I called my family. She received anointing of the sick and an Apostolic Pardon. She was surrounded by praying family.

These past few years were messier and more exhausting than I ever imagined. I find myself feeling sorrow mixed with relief. During this phase of my life I found that often my expectations were false in terms of what Gods perfection looks like. God operates in the middle of mess. He taught me to look up and be loving in the middle of exhaustion and dark places. I failed a lot. I loved a lot. Grace poured a lot. It really is about love and mercy.

We all told mom it was okay to go. My sisters and I went first and then my brother. He went through (with his awesome memory) all of the addresses she had lived at in her life and told her that the next address would be the last and best one. Even though this year the Annunciation was moved because of Holy Week, I still see the date as a hug from Our Blessed Mother. May mom rest in peace.

Funeral Mass will be April 1, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. CST at Saint Philip the Apostle Church, Franklin, TN. Livestream will be available.

In Lieu of flowers please make donations in memory of Mary Jo Green to the Fathers of Mercy or to Radio Maria, USA.

You are waking up to a new day-the 1st without your Mother.

When you are ready, reflect on Jesus’s words on the cross: “John, behold your Mother.” She is our Mother too. He gave Her to us. 🙏

She’s not the one who gave you life….but she’s the greatest ❤️you’ll ever love & have.

    You still have a Mother.

I am so sorry Susan for your loss. I began reading your blog several years ago when I was my Mom’s fulltime caregiver after her stroke. My oldest sister was also losing her ability to walk and I became her caregiver as well. In August of 2022 I suffered a stroke and still have left side paralysis although I’m making small strides these last 6 months. You helped me because after Mom’s stroke her natural dementia increased considerably. You eloquently wrote about how you were dealing with this as well with your mom. Well today would have been my Dad’s 95th birthday! I’ll pray for the repose of your mom’s soul. I know you must be comforted by the thought your parents are together again! Eternal rest grant on to her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her face. May she rest in peace.

    God bless you dear Susan🙏💖

I’m sure you’re never ready to lose your mom at any age, may angels lead her in. And may the graces of your sacrificial love and care for her in her infirmity bear much fruit. My mom is also dying right now (ALS) and it’s been the most exhausting, sorrowful, and shockingly tedious experience of my life. God have mercy on us and on the whole world.

  16. Dearest Susan,

On Monday, words from an old dream years ago returned to me,

    She did her very best

The dream came some bitter weeks after the death of my son, when I kept thinking of the times I had fallen short as a mother.

Today, seeing this news, I know those words from the dream are meant for you, dear friend.

Tucking your mum into my prayers.
