“At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
As I was travelling down the road in my Southern town on Monday, a few days after a the Friday morning Supreme Court decision redefining marriage, I was struck by two very bright lights in the sky. At first I thought it was airplanes, but as I drove, they didn’t seem to move. It was striking. I thought, that looks like the Star of Bethlehem. A newspaper article on Tuesday confirmed what I saw, calling it a “Star of Bethlehem Moment.” As I drove and looked in awe at the brightness of it, I noticed a storm on the horizon. Just underneath the two stars the sky was blacker than night. A wicked storm was coming through. I watched as the storm grew larger and closer to eclipsing the stars. My heart grew spiritually heavy. Soon I could no longer see the stars. What looked like the Star of Bethlehem was enveloped in darkness. The light, put out. I thought of our country. “Eloi, Eloi, lema, sabachtani.” Our country has forsaken Him again, just as it did January 22, 1973. We march in Pride, the deadliest of the seven deadly sins. The world has forsaken him too, killing children in the name of God, forsaken Him just like the day of the cross. Good is called evil and evil is called good.
My Facebook page is lit up with friend fighting friend. Families fighting families. The Darkness has descended.
Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves. But beware of people, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Amen I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. Matthew 10:16-23
Hard times are coming ahead. But be not afraid. “What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.” Matthew 10:27.
Hold fast to the Lord my friends. “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.” Matthew 10:32
I don’t write this post to scare anyone. I only say, don’t be blind to the spiritual. Keep your eyes on Christ. Do not worry or be afraid. The stars are still behind the clouds, the light will overcome the darkness.
The Truth…pure and simple. Thank you for sharing:-)
yes, and our job is to love others and speak truth lovingly. If it falls on deaf ears move on, but I think we’re in for wild ride in the next few months. Christians will be shoved to the fringes for not accepting sin. We have to always point others to heaven though.
Yes…we are to speak the truth lovingly, as we are in Christ (who is love) and He is in us.
Many Christians (not always Christ followers) do not understand what that means. They believe that showing love is being quiet against sin and evil; or being “tolerant” in regard to the sin itself. People are physically and spiritually dying all around us due to evils being condoned by our society. The SINS are actually being heralded with great pride and joy. (By many “Christians”) A rainbow pride flag flying over our white house? (Satan’s perversion of family and sacred sexual marital union) And “Christians” accepting, promoting and condoning the murder of the innocents….through the evil of abortion??? (Sacrifice of innocent babies to Self/Satan) We need to know the enemy…it is Satan, and he has full reign in our culture right now.
However, Jesus has already conquered Satan and death. We must all pray for the Lord’s protection, and for all of our eyes and hearts to be opened and converted to The Truth which is Jesus Christ…true love and peace, which the world cannot give us.
Love in Christ,
Bernadette
Amen. True love does not accept sin.
Another stirring image…spiritual photography! I live in the mid- Atlantic. I was walking my dog at the same time as you must have been driving and encountered the same vision of the two bright stars above the horizon. No dark storm clouds though.
The evening was just settling over my neighborhood. It was quiet and still. I found myself humming a hymn from Sunday’s Mass. I was alone…I was at peace…I wondered where everyone else was and why this moment was not being shared with them, too. My interior “thank you” was lifted to our Wonderful God for this moment. Hopefully, I and my dog returned home.
Later that night, seemingly out of nowhere, we were awoken by the most ferocious Storm of the season. Maybe the one that had come our way through your Southern town.
We know not the day or the hour. But God is in his Heaven and we are his children. We will be okay.
God’s Child
Thank you for your insight!
Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of something I saw a few months ago.
I live in the country and was standing out on the front porch and noticed two large hawks or eagles approaching from the east. They really stood out, since they were so large and flying so very low, I assumed they were hunting. As they drew closer, one of the birds landed on a telephone post about a hundred yards from the house and seemed to be standing guard. The other stayed low and beat its wings to stay airborne as it was carrying a great burden. As it drew nearer still, I noticed that what it was carrying was a large snake. It came to within about a hundred foot of the house and landed on a fence post. I could clearly make out the large snake it was carrying. It eventually flew off stopping on each of the corner posts of the fence as it made its way to the creek. As I was watching this unfold, I thought of our Lord and our Lady and how our Lady will crush the head of the serpent.
I love the imagery in your story. Our Lady will crush the head of the serpent. It is also interesting to note, John the Evangelist is usually depicted with an eagle, and largely he is the one we understand to be at the foot of the cross with Mary.
I come away from reading your post and the comments that followed knowing that the inevitable is coming (if it already hasn’t), but with a strengthening of resolve too. Yesterday, I read about the danger that Iran posed to us, and the Senate green light. My heart felt heavy. I must be honest – for a moment there, I sank. So many prayers of the faithful, and yet Iran could not be averted?
But the sharing about the eagle/hawk sighting by SilentWatcher confirms what your post entreats us to do – no matter how menacing the storm, we must stay anchored in hope that our God will triumph.
caitlynnegrace, Our prayers don’t go unheeded. Sometimes things are allowed I think to bring the evil into the light for all to see. There is always hope. God Bless you.
