Interview with an Exorcist

The Miracles of Saint James the Greater – Noël Nicolas Coypel, 1726

On one occasion, as we were on our way to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination and brought large profits to her owners by fortune-telling.  She began to follow Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to proclaim to you a way of salvation.” She kept doing this for many days, until Paul became very greatly troubled. He turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And the spirit came out of her instantly. Acts 16:16-18

Here is an interview with our Diocesan Exorcist. Father Dan has been my Spiritual Director for the past 8 years. There are many great insights in this interview;

    Just watched this interview. It was quite interesting, and I was really taken by Fr. Dan’s down-to-earth personality and his spirituality. I hadn’t planned on staying up past midnight to watch, but found that I couldn’t turn it off! Thank you for sharing.

    I know it’s not wise to dwell on this subject, but having watched the video, I was wondering:
    Father said something about parents and spouses having some authority over poor spirit in regard to their loved ones….even if we’ve been to Confession, is it “safe” for a layperson to address this? Also, are online deliverance prayers led by a priest “safe”? I fear taking initiative in this realm that might open up myself or others to something dangerous..
    Also, Father mentioned certain cases where individuals were possessed due to satanic rituals performed on them; if this can happen without personal intent or assent, how do we protect ourselves? Thank you.

    • You have authority over yourself, spouse and children. Father Ripperger made a book called “Deliverance Prayers for use by the laity.”. He is also an exorcist.

      God gave us dominion in Genesis so we can and should pray against the demons.
      But if you have a spirit of fear the demons can use it against you.
      I have done the online sessions before and my Spiritual Director was aware. The key really is to not be afraid, and also forgiveness. Forgiving is a must in order to be delivered. We must forgive those who have hurt us. Sometimes it is ourselves we must forgive.
      Talk to a Priest if you feel afraid. My posture towards demons is enmity. for stealing what belongs to me. A healthy fear keeps me from messing with anything occult, but walk in confidence in the Lord that you belong to Him and the demons will flee from you.
      As for curses put upon you by others, you can break the curses by forgiving the others and praying a curse breaking prayer. The case in the interview is extreme and obviously the nun was in great torment, that’s how Father got involved in the first place.

      It teaches you so much about Spiritual Warfare and what is and is not under your authority.
